Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The pale peach-colored 1999 Brut Vintage Rosé offers delicate aromas of yeasty strawberries as well as a medium to full-bodied character that displays peach, pepper and red currant flavors. Medium to full-bodied and well-focused, this is a rich, flavorful rosé that will work wonderfully with meals. Louis Roederer does not display a disgorgement date or consumer-friendly lot number on its Brut Rosé. This is regrettable, as it has consistently been one of the finer bottlings in this category.

Description
Since its origins in 1776, the Maison Louis Roederer has followed a unique philosophy: to cultivate the essential. When most people were buying grapes, they were buying vineyards. Thus was born Louis Roederer Brut Rosé Vintage, an intimate expression of terroir, born of a bold decision: to rely on the pellicular maceration of Pinot Noir by the bleeding method, rather than the traditional blending of white and red base wines. The Cumières estate, with its chalky-clay soils and optimal exposure to the sun, is the heart of this rosé Champagne. There, the Pinot Noir (about 70%) displays all its fruity and structural character, while the Chardonnay (30%) brings finesse and energy.
Winemaking
Once harvested, the Pinot Noir is vinified by cold maceration for 5 to 8 hours, before being bled, a technique that gives the wine chromatic and aromatic intensity without losing elegance. The must is blended with the Chardonnay and fermented slowly, partly in stainless steel and partly in oak vats, without malolactic fermentation to preserve freshness. Louis Roederer Brut Rosé Vintage then rests on its fine lees for at least four years, followed by a six-month post-disgorgement refinement. The dosage is low (~8 g/L), allowing the wine to speak without unnecessary make-up.
Taste
In the glass, Louis Roederer Brut Rosé Vintage has a pale salmon colour with coppery reflections. The fine, persistent bubbles rise gracefully. The nose displays a captivating complexity: fresh red fruits (raspberry, forest strawberry), candied orange peel and hints of pomegranate, enveloped in dry floral notes, subtle pastries and raw almond. As it evolves in the glass, reminiscences of rose petals, fine spices and a chalky, almost iodised nuance emerge.
The palate is enveloping, creamy and tense at the same time. The attack is broad, with juicy fruit and a satiny texture reminiscent of velvet, but a backbone of electric freshness soon appears. The finish is long, mineral, with notes of pink grapefruit, wet chalk and a saline touch that invites another sip. Louis Roederer Brut Rosé Vintage is a gastronomic, refined, serious Champagne that does not seek to seduce with exuberance, but with elegance, precision and persistence.
