Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Regularly one of the standouts of the domaine range, the 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, smoke, spices and espresso roast. Full-bodied, broad and layered, with a rich core of fruit, powdery tannins and succulent acids, it concludes with a pure and expansive finish.

Description
The story of this Grand Cru begins in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, where the maison Louis Jadot, through Domaine Gagey, devotedly cultivates its plots in Échézeaux. Here, just above the Grands Échézeaux and next to the wall of the Clos de Vougeot, this vineyard has an east-southeast exposure, on calcareous soils that give the Pinot Noir a noble, firm expression, deeply linked to the terroir. In a gesture of loyalty to the site, the grapes are harvested by hand, with meticulous selection so that only the purest fruit enters the cellar. It is said that in a difficult vintage, the team decided to wait longer than usual to harvest, risking part of the production in exchange for achieving a more precise and complex ripeness: a sign of the patience required by this vineyard and the courage of those who cultivate it.
Winemaking
The clusters destined for Louis Jadot Echézeaux Grand Cru are carefully destemmed before undergoing an extended maceration of three to four weeks in open vats, with twice-daily pigeage for precise extraction. The wine is then aged for about 18 months in oak barrels, with about a third in new barrels. This controlled ageing seeks harmony between fruit, structure and the mineral character provided by the soil, consolidating the distinctive profile of Louis Jadot Echézeaux Grand Cru.
Taste
On the nose, Louis Jadot Echézeaux Grand Cru unfolds with notes of black cherry, ripe raspberry, dried rose petals and a spicy undertone - clove, liquorice, a subtle trace of cocoa. The chalky minerality is perceived as a breeze of wet chalk that frames the fruit without overshadowing it. The palate is fine but concentrated, with polished tannins and vibrant acidity supporting its elegance. The finish is long, subtly saline, with hints of undergrowth, incense and candied red fruit. It is a wine of tense silence, more restrained than explosive, perfect for those seeking depth without exuberance. A Grand Cru that uncompromisingly reflects the sober and refined soul of Burgundy.
