Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Les Theurons (Domaine Gagey) bursts with aromas of plums, orange zest, petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, with powdery tannins and a saline finish, this will offer a broad drinking window.

Features

Description

Among the gentle slopes of the Côte de Beaune, where vines have learned to struggle against compact and demanding soils, one of the region's most discreetly noble wines is born: Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Theurons. This climat, which rises on a small eminence - a small mound - gives its name to a mosaic of plots facing south-east, where the vines sink their roots into hard, ungenerous but deeply expressive loams. In this terroir that demands patience and precision, Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Theurons has managed to capture the essence of Pinot Noir with a vision that is true to place and time.

Winemaking

The grapes, with small berries and dense skins, are carefully harvested, completely destemmed and fermented for about four weeks in open vats. This long, controlled process allows for a measured extraction, revealing finesse rather than strength. Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Theurons is then transferred to French oak barrels - a new part - where it rests for 18 months in the maison's cool cellars. Here, in darkness and silence, it gains structure, balance and complexity without losing freshness.

Taste

The bouquet of Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Theurons is precise and restrained: black cherry, ripe raspberry, subtle dried flowers and an earthy background with notes of undergrowth, blond tobacco and a delicate echo of sweet spices. On the palate, it enters firm and defined, with polished tannins and vibrant acidity driving it towards a long, slightly mineral finish. There is a controlled tension reminiscent of great ageing wines: austere but seductive, restrained but persistent. The red fruit coexists with smoky touches and an elegant salinity that makes it an ideal companion for dishes such as beef tataki, foie poêlé or spicy terrines. A wine that does not seek to impress with volume, but with truth. A clear expression of Beaune's most strategically placed Premier Cru.
