Description
The story of Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux begins on the sunny slopes of Beaune, the heart of the Côte de Beaune, where Maison Louis Jadot has been devotedly cultivating Pinot Noir for generations. In the Clos des Couchereaux estate - classified Premier Cru - the winery found a particularly refined expression of the terroir: well-drained clay-limestone soils, covered by light alluvium and fully exposed to the midday sun. It was here that the technical team, in a risky but revealing decision, chose to reduce yields to favour the natural concentration of the grapes. The result: a pure Pinot Noir, with identity and tension, which speaks directly of its origin.
Winemaking
The vinification of Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux begins with a selective manual harvest. The berries, very black and healthy, are destemmed and fermented in open vats for about four weeks, favouring a slow and complete extraction. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels -a proportion of them new- where it rests and refines for 18 months. This process preserves the energy of the Pinot Noir, balancing structure and freshness without masking the mineral character of the terroir.
Taste
On the nose, Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux displays an elegant and restrained bouquet: black cherry, ripe raspberry and plum intertwine with notes of undergrowth, damp earth and subtle hints of smoke and spice. Over time, nuances of leather, moss and a delicate floral echo emerge. The palate is firm but agile, with marked but integrated tannins and an acidity that gives it verticality. The red fruits evolve towards a more serious expression, accompanied by liquorice, truffle and bitter cocoa on the finish. Persistent, mineral, without artifice. A wine that breathes Burgundian depth, ideal for grilled meats, light game dishes or washed rind cheeses.
