Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The Foradori 2020 Nosiola Fontanasanta (an organic and biodynamic wine closed with a yellow wax capsule) is very perfumed and floral with yellow rose, dried jasmine, peach and honey. There are aromas that appear to come directly from the grape skins and from extended skin contact. The wine carries its medium-bodied fruit weight with grace.

Features

Description

Foradori Fontanasanta Nosiola comes from an ancestral grape variety of Trentino, the Nosiola. This variety, once widespread throughout the region, has limited its cultivation to specific areas such as Valle dei Laghi, Colline di Trento and Pressano. It is a grape that expresses itself intensely in vineyards with poor soils, giving rise to wines of great delicacy and longevity. In the past, Nosiola was always vinified with its skins. However, thanks to biodynamic practices in the vineyard and the use of amphorae, it is now possible to return to this ancient style of winemaking. The amphora allows the wine to be in contact with the skins for a longer period of time, revealing the true expression of Nosiola. It is a table wine that expresses itself best after breathing for a long period and is served at least 15 degrees. The wine with Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT appellation comes from a 3 hectares vineyard and a calcareous clay terroir,

Winemaking

Vinification takes place in clay amphorae or vats, where it ferments spontaneously and macerates for 6 to 8 months. Afterwards, it spends a short period in used acacia barrels. It is bottled without fining or filtering and with a small dose of sulphur. The annual production is 10,000 bottles.

Taste

Foradori Fontanasanta Nosiola is evocative for its pale yellow colour with silvery reflections. On the nose we find intense and evocative aromas of cooked peaches, honey, apricots and pears, complemented by delicate notes of white flowers. However, what is really surprising is the presence of a damp aroma and hints of quince. On the palate the entry is saline, with a high acidity that refreshes and revitalises. Mineral flavours intertwine with hints of orange peel and citrus, especially grapefruit. Despite its complexity and richness of flavours, it has only 10.5° alcohol, making it light and balanced.
