Description
Emrich-Schönleber Lenz Riesling is a semi-dry white wine from the German region of Nahe. This wine is made from the star variety Riesling, one of the most appreciated and recognised grape varieties in the world of wine. The Frühlingsplätzchen vineyard, from which this wine is made, is one of the best sites in Nahe, and Emrich-Schönleber owns 6 hectares of the total 20 hectares of this vineyard. It is important to note that only a small part of the annual harvest from this plot is sold under the Grosses Gewächs appellation, equivalent to Grand Cru in France.
Winemaking
Generally, the grapes are harvested by hand in October when they are at their optimum ripeness. Afterwards, the bunches are carefully pressed, followed by fermentation at low temperature in stainless steel tanks for 4 weeks. This process ensures that the wine retains its freshness and unique characteristics. Finally, the wine is bottled early to maintain maximum freshness. The total production is 10,000 bottles, which makes it a rather exclusive wine.
Taste
Lenz Riesling is characterised by being Halbtrocken, which translates as "Almost Dry". Its flavour is fine and full of nuances, presenting an unequalled freshness. On the palate, there is a combination of flavours that include notes of lime juice, Granny Smith apples and minerals. The finish is almost dry, with a subtle, enveloping sweetness that perfectly complements its character. It is a wine that pairs perfectly with seafood dishes with a hint of spice, such as chilli shrimp with aioli and lime.
