Description
In Monzingen, in the heart of Germany's Nahe region, the Schönleber family has been growing Riesling for generations with an absolute commitment to the terroir. It was Frank Schönleber who, seeking to capture the freshest, most mineral essence of his schist and quartz soils, conceived Frühtau - "early dew" - as a wine that would pay homage to the early hours of the day in the vineyards, when the fruit still breathes the moisture of the night. Emrich Schönleber Frühtau Monzinger Riesling Trocken is mainly grown in the upper reaches of the legendary Frühlingsplätzchen, where the slope, altitude and eastern exposure provide grapes of great tension and precision. The cultivation philosophy is sustainable, herbicide-free, always aiming for maximum mineral expression and varietal purity.
Winemaking
Emrich Schönleber Frühtau Monzinger Riesling Trocken is made by spontaneous fermentation in steel tanks and large fuders with indigenous yeasts. A significant part of the wine remains for months on its fine lees, which adds body and texture without losing freshness. No added aromas or unnecessary oenological interventions are used: the goal is clarity and precision.
Taste
The nose of Emrich-Schönleber Frühtau Monzinger Riesling Trocken is clean and vibrant: pink grapefruit, green apple, lime zest and delicate notes of fresh herbs. Nothing exuberant, always restrained, like a cool breeze on hot stone. On the palate, the wine is straight and saline, with sharp acidity driving flavours of ripe citrus, white nectarine and a faint echo of minerality. The finish is long, dry, with that crushed stone note that defines the character of Nahe's great Rieslings. A wine for purists, ideal both when young and after a few years of cellaring.
