Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2019 Dominus is blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc, aged in 40% new French oak. Impressively dark-hued in the glass, it yields scents of cherries and cassis on the nose—or is it black cherries and redcurrants? Subtle notes of mocha, pencil shavings and almost Graves-like earthiness wind through the concentrated, medium to full-bodied palate, giving it a sense of savory gravitas, while the finish is silky and long, leaving a lingering residue of soft tannins and mouthwatering freshness.

Features

Description

The name Dominus, which means "lord of the estate" in Latin, was chosen by Christian Moueix to emphasise his eternal commitment to the land. The Dominus Estate team, rooted in values of quality, stewardship, tradition and innovation, shares the vision of producing distinctive wines that reflect this unique terroir. Viticulture and winemaking are meticulous, aiming for pure, balanced and complex wines. Minimal intervention is practised throughout the process, from grape selection to fermentation and ageing, to preserve the fruit character.

Winemaking

In terms of its composition, Dominus wine is made mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon (86%), followed by Petit Verdot (9%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). The fermentation process takes between 2 and 3 weeks and the wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 40% of which are new.

Taste

Dominus is known for its complexity and balance, demonstrating the potential of a wine produced in an exceptional terroir. It is a structured, perfectly integrated and elegant wine, which improves with age. In terms of its organoleptic characteristics, it has aromas of tender almonds, wild strawberries and blueberries, with delicate notes of caramel. On the palate, silky tannins, black berries, cocoa and sage can be perceived, culminating in a long, elegant finish.
