Description
Domaine de L'Ecú Gloria was born from the restless spirit of a historic Loire winery that decided to look south and dialogue with the light of Tuscany. This four-hand cuvée is the result of a friendship and a conviction: Vermentino Tuscany can reach an almost telluric depth if it is made with the same radicalism that distinguishes the great European biodynamic wines. The "Partenza" plot, one hectare facing Southwest, sits on argilo-calcareous soils rich in Pleistocene fossils and shells, an ancient seabed now bathed by the Mediterranean sun.
The vineyard is cultivated according to the principles of Demeter certified biodynamic agriculture, with superficial soil tillage, green work and simple Guyot pruning. Production is limited (40 hl/ha), aiming for concentration, identity and mineral tension. Here, 100% Vermentino finds a unique balance between solar amplitude and saline precision, giving rise to an authentic terroir white wine.
Winemaking
At Domaine de L'Ecu Gloria, the grapes are harvested by hand and the grapes enter the winery by gravity to preserve their purity. A short pellicular maceration of 4 to 5 days is carried out to provide structure and aromatic complexity. The pneumatic pressing is delicate and fermentation is carried out exclusively with indigenous yeasts, reinforcing the identity of the vineyard.
The wine is aged for 12 months in 400-litre amphorae, a true amphorae ageing process that allows for natural micro-oxygenation without aromatic interference from the wood. The wine is neither filtered nor clarified, respecting its original character. This is an unfiltered biodynamic white wine with a cellaring capacity of 5 to 7 years.
Taste
In the glass, Domaine de L'Ecu Gloria has an intense yellow colour with greenish reflections. The nose is vibrant and precise: ripe lemon, kumquat and juicy pear, accompanied by fresh pineapple, green almond and delicate white flowers.
The palate is incisive and mineral on the attack, almost electric, but soon becomes full and enveloping. The light phenolic trace brings a noble bitterness reminiscent of citrus peel. The texture is rich, with volume and a marked saline tension that evokes seashells and coastal breezes.
The finish is long and lingering, with ripe citrus notes and a deep mineral echo. Domaine de l'Ecu Gloria asserts itself as a gastronomic, energetic and structured Tuscany Vermentino, combining Mediterranean power with freshness and precision.
