Description
The wine Cascina Tavijn Teresa La Grande is made in the Piedmont region of Italy, specifically from the Monferrato area in Asti, near the hometown of Scurzolengo. This wine is made from 100% Ruché grapes. These grapes come mainly from estate plots scattered in the steep hills of Monferrato, although some Ruché acquired from Nadia Verrua's neighbours is also included.
Winemaking
It all starts with a destemming of the grapes keeping the berries whole to start the spontaneous carbonic maceration with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. A process that culminates after 2 months of maceration. The wine ages for a year in cement, fibreglass and stainless steel tanks. The wine is then bottled under the name Teresa, in honour of María Teresa Verrua, mother of the Verrua family. However, in certain vintages, the wine is aged for another full year in large Slovenian oak vats and is called Teresa La Grande. The wine is not filtered and no sulphur is added.
Taste
Cascina Tavijn Teresa La Grande has a slender aroma, with light notes of nail polish remover (similar to oxidised acetone) and ripe blackberries. On the palate, its weight is pleasant, suggesting long oak tannins. It is very sweet and fruity at first, developing some smoky notes and earthy bitterness, to finish incredibly dry, with plum and tannin.
