Description
Alexandre Bain is no ordinary winegrower. In the heart of Tracy-sur-Loire, this Sauvignon Blanc rebel defied the established rules by refusing to manipulate his wines to conform to the Pouilly Fumé appellation. In 2017, after years of controversy, his independence was sealed with a judgement that allowed him to label his wines as 'Vin de France', freeing himself from restrictions that he felt muted the true essence of the terroir. Alexandre Bain L. D'Ange is a pure expression of his philosophy: a Sauvignon Blanc with no strings attached, born in limestone and marl soils, grown under biodynamic principles and worked with as little intervention as possible.
Winemaking
Each bunch of Alexandre Bain L. D'Ange is harvested by hand, allowing for a meticulous selection of grapes at their exact point of ripeness. Fermentation, completely spontaneous, is carried out by indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, without the addition of sulphites. This Sauvignon Blanc rests for 24 months on its lees, gaining depth and texture without the need for filtering or fining. The result is a wine that reflects without artifice the vibrant energy of its land.
Taste
On the nose, Alexandre Bain L. D'Ange displays an aromatic range of white flowers, ripe apple and a subtle touch of honey. On the palate, its structure is ample, with an enveloping texture that caresses the palate. Refreshing acidity and a saline minerality underpin its fruity richness, while a slight oxidative nuance adds complexity. The finish is long, marked by a chalky persistence and electrifying tension that invites further exploration of every nuance of this unconventional Sauvignon Blanc.
