Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
2022 was a much warmer year with lower yields, and they harvested earlier and faster. The 2022 12 Volts keeps balance and poise, with a higher percentage of carbonic maceration and shorter time in barrel. Its parameters are similar to the 2021 I tasted next to it, 12% alcohol, but it has a faint sensation of darker fruit and more concentration. It also has some slightly dusty tannins. They produced some 45,000 bottles.

Description
The 12 Volts wine, a creation of the 4Kilos winery, is a distinctive expression of the IGP Mallorca. This organic wine is composed of a unique blend of both indigenous and foreign varieties, with 60% Callet and Fogoneu, 20% Syrah, and 10% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The uniqueness of 12 Volts lies in its meticulous winemaking and ageing, reflecting the mastery of winemaker Francesc Grimalt.
Winemaking
The elaboration of 12 Volts begins with a manual harvest, ensuring the selection of the best grapes. These grapes come from vineyards located between 120 and 180 metres above sea level, in a Mediterranean climate characterised by hot, dry summers. The soil, a mixture of call vermell, clay loam with abundant ferric oxide and deep calcareous clay, contributes to the complexity of the wine. The organic viticulture used, with native plant cover, enhances the microbiology of the soil and regulates water retention, resulting in grapes of exceptional quality.
In the winery, the grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks, starting at 20°C and gradually reaching 28°C. This process lasts approximately 20 days, allowing for a balanced extraction of flavours and tannins. The wine is then aged for 9 months, using both 3,000-litre foudres and second and third year French oak barrels, which adds subtlety and complexity without overloading the wine with excessive oak notes.
Taste
12 Volts is characterised by its lightness and medium body, offering a flavoursome and balanced taste experience. The nose is dominated by ripe fruit notes with a slightly spicy background, where the oak is impeccably integrated. On the palate, the tannins are fine and the texture is pleasant, creating a harmonious and accessible profile. We recommend serving at a temperature of 16°C to fully appreciate its qualities.
