Description
Werlitsch Welschriesling Vom Opok is a pure expression of the Welschriesling grape variety, produced in the Südsteiermark region of Austria. This wine belongs to the "Vom Opok" collection, which is characterised by its origin in the Kalkmergel terroir, typical of southern Styria.
Winemaking
Made from Welschriesling grapes from soils rich in limestone clay. In the winery, the grapes are manually destemmed and then spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts in 3,000-litre open oak vats. The wine is aged for 18 months in 300-litre oak barrels and the same fermentation vats.
Taste
Werlitsch Welschriesling Vom Opok has reduced notes with hints of flint and chalk. The fruit is subtle, with hints of apricot and yellow apple, accompanied by bergamot and reminiscences of fresh hay and meadow herbs. On the palate, there is a bright freshness, with herbal and creamy elements reminiscent of sourdough bread and a light effervescence.
The texture is a combination of polished tannins, finesse from the long ageing on lees and an acidic core that supports the whole.
