The 2016 Viña Arana Gran Reserva is an elegant blend of Tempranillo with 5% Graciano matured in used American oak barrels for three years. During this time, the wine was manually racked from barrel to barrel, with the help of a candle, six times. It's ripe at 14.5% alcohol, with pungent notes of forest floor and truffles, dark spices and an earthy touch. It has a powerful palate, with very good freshness and acidity, reflecting the cooler year. It has some tannins that would welcome food. 60,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2021.

Description
Viña Arana Gran Reserva is produced by the Bodega La Rioja Alta in the D.O.Ca. La Rioja. It is a classic red wine of good style made with Tempranillo grapes, with a minimum contribution of Graciano, from the Las Cuevas, El Palo and Las Monjas estates in Rodezno, and the Montecillo estate in Fuenmayor.
All of these are vineyards, with an average age of 40 years, planted on limestone soils.
Winemaking
Harvesting begins with the Tempranillo grapes, followed by the Graciano grapes. The grapes are transported refrigerated in small boxes to maintain their integrity. The wine is fermented at controlled temperatures for 11 days; meanwhile, malolactic fermentation takes 44 days.
The wine is aged for 3 years in American oak barrels and every 6 months it is racked, using the traditional method, from barrel to barrel. Finally, both varieties are blended to achieve the balance that characterises this wine.
