Description
Roberto Voerzio's winery, in the heart of La Morra, Piedmont, represents a radical vision committed to absolute quality. Since the first vintage in 2001, his Roberto Voerzio Langhe Nebbiolo Disanfrancesco was born with a clear philosophy: very low yields (1-1.5 kg per plant), high density cultivation (6,000-8,000 vines/ha) and a deep respect for the vineyard. This Nebbiolo comes from vineyards facing south-east, where the hills catch the morning light and the cool breeze, allowing a slow and balanced ripening. The clay and sandstone soils give the wine a precise minerality and a characteristic structural tension. The hand of a winegrower obsessed with detail can be sensed in every decision, from the manual selection of the grapes to the limited production of just 10,000 - 12,000 bottles.
Winemaking
The harvest of the Roberto Voerzio Langhe Nebbiolo Disanfrancesco takes place at the end of September. The alcoholic fermentation, spontaneous, lasts between 10 and 30 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation, also in steel. After this phase, it is carefully racked to wood, where it ages for 12 months in barrels and 25-hectolitre casks, 30% of which are new and 70% used, thus allowing a balance between fruit expression and structural complexity. It then rests for a further 8 months in stainless steel to refine its character before bottling. It should be noted that the sulphite content of the bottled wine is less than 50% of the legal maximum allowed, underlining the natural, non-interventionist approach to winemaking.
Taste
On the nose, the Roberto Voerzio Langhe Nebbiolo Disanfrancesco opens with notes of sour cherry, ripe raspberries and a delicate undertone of dried petals and wet stone. There is no fruity exaggeration: it is restrained, precise, marked by a sharp minerality. On the palate, the entry is firm and vibrant, with fine, well-integrated tannins, typical of young but well-worked Nebbiolo. The acidity is lively, refreshing and prolongs an elegant finish with echoes of liquorice, dried violets and black tea leaf. The structure is subtle, tense, with an expression that avoids opulence and opts for depth. An honest wine, ideal to accompany game dishes, roasted meats or cured cheeses, which will delight those who are looking for a Nebbiolo without artifice and full of authenticity.
