Description
Since Ridge Vineyards decided to create a wine that brings together the best of Sonoma, Ridge Three Valleys has become a choral expression of the region's diverse character. Rather than focusing on a single vineyard, this blend seeks to capture the complexity and balance of several parcels - Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River and Sonoma Valley - by combining historic grapes such as Zinfandel (71%), Petit Syrah, Carieñena and Alicante Bouschet. It was a brave decision: to abandon the uniqueness of one terroir to embrace the richness of many. The result is a wine that, year after year, manages to reflect the Ridge Vineyards vision: authenticity, transparency and fidelity to origin.
Winemaking
The process begins with hand harvesting and rigorous selection of the fruit. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in open vats, respecting varietal expression as much as possible. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation is allowed before the wine is transferred to American oak barrels (19% new), where it rests for 12 months. This refinement adds structure and subtle spice notes, without interfering with the fresh, juicy profile that defines Ridge Three Valleys. As is customary at Ridge, oenological intervention is minimal: no fining, light filtering and moderate doses of sulphites.
Taste
On the nose, Ridge Three Valleys displays a generous and seductive profile: black cherries, blackberries, ripe raspberries, with hints of liquorice, dried violets and cloves. There are also earthy notes of cocoa and sweet, well-integrated wood. The palate is enveloping, medium-bodied, with fine, juicy tannins that add structure without detracting from its freshness. The vibrant acidity supports the fruit and prolongs the finish, which is reminiscent of black fruits, dried herbs and mild spices. It is a balanced, versatile and characterful wine, ideal both to accompany grilled meats and to enjoy on its own. A Zinfandel with the soul of a blend, it encapsulates the richness of Sonoma in every sip.
