Description
Protos Gran Reserva is a wine produced only in exceptional vintages by Bodegas Protos, one of the most emblematic wineries in Ribera del Duero, founded in 1927. This prestigious wine is made from 100% Tempranillo or Tinta del País grapes, grown in small plots of old vines over 60 years old in the villages of Anguix and Quintanamanvirgo. The low-yielding soils allow a limited production of 1,500 kg/ha, which contributes to a unique concentration in the wine.
Winemaking
The elaboration of Protos Gran Reserva follows a rigorous and artisanal process. After a manual harvest, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks with temperature control between 26 and 28ºC. The maceration, which lasts between 3 and 4 weeks, is carried out with daily pumping over, ensuring an optimal extraction of colour and tannins. The wine is aged for a minimum of 24 months in French (80%) and American (20%) oak barrels, followed by 36 months in the bottle, thus developing its characteristic structure and elegance.
Taste
In the glass, Protos Gran Reserva shows a deep dark cherry colour with garnet rim, reflecting its time in barrel and its maturity. On the nose, it is expressive and complex, with a range of nuances ranging from stewed fruit, cocoa and tobacco to light smoky and mineral notes. On the palate, it stands out for its silky texture and round tannins, offering a long aftertaste and remarkable ageing potential. This wine is a tribute to the tradition and excellence of Bodegas Protos, ideal to enjoy on special occasions.
