Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The NV Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Arpège is an unfiltered Chardonnay blend of the 2010 vintage (53%) and the 2001 vintage (47%) that was bottled in May 2013 and disgorged in October 2017 as Extra Brut. The grapes are sourced in Vertus and Villeneuve. The intensely yellow colored Côte des Blancs offers a clear, fresh and characteristic bouquet with bright fruit and citrus aromas along with lovely pure chalky/mineral notes. Stimulatingly pure, fresh and mineral on the palate, this blend reveals nice grip and bright, elegant fruit along with remarkable purity, elegance and lots of character. Tasted April 2018.

Features

Description

Pascal Doquet Arpège Premier Cru Brut Nature is a Premier Cru category champagne, made exclusively from Chardonnay (100%), which makes it a Blanc de Blancs of great character. The vineyards are located in the Côte des Blancs area, particularly in Vertus and Mont Aimé, where the chalky soils bring an outstanding minerality to the wine. Pascal Doquet's winery, run by the fourth generation of the family, has been dedicated to biodynamic viticulture since 2006, producing champagnes that combine elegance and power with a deep respect for the environment.

Winemaking

The winemaking process for Pascal Doquet Arpège includes malolactic fermentation and ageing for 3 to 4 months on the lees, which gives it complexity and texture. In addition, a blend of perpetual reserve wines (35%) started in 2012 is used, which reinforces its consistency and quality. Approximately one third of the fermentation takes place in small oak barrels, adding further depth to the wine.

Taste

Pascal Doquet Arpège offers an aromatic profile of white fruits and candied citrus, with delicate floral notes. On the palate, its creamy texture and balance between freshness and complexity stand out. The chalky minerality of the vineyards is clearly evident, providing a vibrant structure and a long persistence on the palate. This champagne is characterised by fine, elegant bubbles, ideal as an aperitif or to accompany seafood dishes, enhancing the freshness of the ingredients.
