Description
In the heart of Baix Penedès, Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Gerosa -Italian architects turned radically honest winegrowers- founded Partida Creus with the conviction of rescuing almost extinct varieties and giving them a new voice. Subirat Parent, a forgotten relative of Malvasía, is one of those treasures rediscovered in abandoned vineyards, with old vines that were barely standing on stony, calcareous soils, punished by the Mediterranean sun and the sea breezes of the Garraf. The philosophy of Partida Creus is uncompromising: organic farming, minimal intervention and a deep respect for varietal identity. There is no make-up, just a sincere look at the land and time. In 2016, they decided to vinify this Subirat as an ancestral, a risky bet at a time when the market barely understood the method, but which today is a standard-bearer of bubbly authenticity.
Winemaking
Harvesting is done by hand, with whole bunches of grapes pressed directly to preserve the purest expression of the fruit. The must ferments with indigenous yeasts at 15-18°C in stainless steel tanks, respecting the natural rhythms of the grapes. Fermentation does not stop: it is transferred to the bottle while it still retains residual sugars, allowing it to complete its transformation under cork, giving rise to a fine, rustic bubble with a wild character. Partida Creus Subirat Parent Ancestral rests for 10 months on its fine lees in the bottle, gaining texture, depth and that slight veil of artisanal bakery that only time can sculpt.
Taste
A lively, overflowing mousse announces its entry onto the scene, with that raw, spontaneous touch so typical of unfiltered ancestral wines. Partida Creus Subirat Parent Ancestral reveals itself from the first moment with an intense and surprising nose: wilted orange blossom, ripe pear skin, and a background reminiscent of dried apricot and green mango, all enveloped in a citrus and saline haze. On the palate, the wine is pure energy: acidic, dry, sharp, like an electric shock that awakens the senses. The lees provide a creamy texture that contrasts with the sparkling agitation of the bubbles, creating a tense, harmonious dance. Notes of Mediterranean herbs, a hint of bitter almond, and a long finish that leaves a mineral and slightly bitter imprint, as if the wine carries with it the memory of hot stone and the nearby sea.
An ancestral wine with an indomitable character, for curious palates and lovers of the genuine. There is no artifice here, only bottled truth.
