Description

First it was a game between friends: to recover almost forgotten vines, native varieties that nobody wanted anymore, and to give them back their voice. This is how it all began for Antonella and Massimo, the creators of Partida Creus. They came from Italy to the Massís de Bonastre looking for a simple life, and ended up revolutionising natural wine in Catalonia. On their "Sitgetí" estate, among pine trees and abandoned fields, they found vines of Garrut - the local name for Monastrell - and knew immediately that there was something special there. No business plan, just intuition, respect and a lot of manual work.

Partida Creus Garrut grows on a clay loam soil, chalky and extremely stony, in an area where viticulture is demanding and not at all complacent. The Massís de Bonastre -a little jewel of the Baix Penedès-offers a dry and sunny microclimate, with a constant sea breeze that cools the vines and allows a slow but intense ripening. Each cluster here tells a story of sun and stone. This is the origin of this wine: honest, vibrant, without masks.

Winemaking

The Garrut is completely destemmed to maintain the purity of the fruit. For three days, the must macerates with its skins, accompanied by pigeages: an almost obsessive ritual to gently extract colour and structure. It then ferments with its own yeasts, without additives, in stainless steel tanks. Nothing is forced. Everything flows to the rhythm of the wine. After fermentation, it remains for four months with its fine lees in the same tanks, and then rests for twenty months in oak barrels. Time does its work, without haste.

Taste

Partida Creus Garrut is pure tension: juicy black fruit, dry spices and an earthy background reminiscent of the dust of the estate in summer. It is a dense but agile wine, with fine tannins and an almost unexpected freshness for the variety. There is a saline note on the finish, as if the Mediterranean had seeped into the glass. Partida Creus Garrut does not aim to please everyone. It is for those who know how to listen to what a forgotten grape has to say when it returns home.
