Description
Oddero Dolcetto d'Alba is an exceptional wine from the region of Castiglione Falletto and La Morra in Italy. This wine is made from the Dolcetto grape variety, which makes up 100% of its composition. The vineyards where this grape comes from have particular characteristics: in Castiglione Falletto, it is located at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level, with a southern exposure and a density of 4,700 vines per hectare. These vines have an average age of 30 years. On the other hand, in La Morra, the vines are between 40 and 50 years old and are located at an altitude of 280 metres above sea level.
Elaboration
The elaboration of this wine begins with a careful selection of grapes in the vineyard. Subsequently, fermentation and maceration is carried out for approximately 12 days in stainless steel containers. After this process, malolactic fermentation takes place in November. The wine is aged in stainless steel and bottled the following spring. It is marketed from the beginning of the summer.
Taste
Oddero Dolcetto d'Alba is characterised by an intense ruby red colour with violet hues. Its aroma is vinous and sometimes fruity. In terms of taste, it is dry, full-bodied and with a pleasant bitter touch. Despite what its name might suggest, this wine is not sweet. In fact, the term"dolcetto" refers more to the grape than to the wine itself. Historically, this grape has been the table grape of the hills of the region, offered in autumn along with seasonal pears and boiled chestnuts from the nearby Alpine valleys.
