Description
The Occhipinti Vino di Contrada Bombolieri wine is a pure expression of the terroir of Vittoria, reflecting the passion and dedication of Arianna Occhipinti. Arianna has been working tirelessly in the vineyards, not only focusing her attention on the grape varieties, but also on the soil and the potential of the different contrade or districts of Vittoria and their influence on the wines.
Winemaking
Contrada Bombolieri is located in a spot with a high limestone content in the soil, facing the Serra San Bartolo. The soils here can vary in colour from deep chestnut to white, but the surface layer of sand is decidedly lower, only 25 cm. Just below this thin layer, we find a solid limestone. In one part of this contrada, the soil is more clay-limestone, visibly different with a greater presence of white on its surface. It is here, in the Vigna Strada, that this wine is born, floral and direct, with a highly persistent acidity. 2700 bottles of this wine are produced.
Taste
Occhipinti Vino di Contrada Bombolieri offers fresh aromas of crushed blueberry and a hint of cherry, brown sugar with herbs, hints of stable and hints of leather. On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied with soft tannins and high, linear acidity. Some compare it to a Pinot Noir from Burgundy.
