Description
Luis Cañas Viñas Viejas is a white wine produced in the vineyards of the Luis Cañas winery in the Rioja Alavesa area (D.O. Ca. Rioja). It is an exquisite wine made from Malvasía grapes (90%) and complemented with Viura (10%) from vineyards with an average age of 57 years. [link:Izadi+White+Fermented+in+Barrica+2020].
On a gastronomic level, this wine goes well as an aperitif or accompaniment to main courses of blue and white fish, seafood, paellas and all kinds of rice dishes.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand in small crates and when they are in the winery, a double selection of clusters and grapes takes place on the table.
After pressing, fermentation takes place in French and American oak barrels (225 and 550 litre capacity respectively) at controlled temperatures.
The wine obtained rests in the cellar for 5 months, being subjected to periodic battonage until it is bottled to achieve a structured and exquisite wine.
Taste
This exquisite white wine is fresh, subtle, with fine notes of camomile and slight hints of aniseed reminiscent of fennel. It is also structured, intense and with a balanced acidity.
Luis Cañas Reserva stands out for its elegance and for the presence of very fresh fruity notes and floral nuances with hints of wild herbs.

It is made from Malvasía grapes and complemented with Viura. The clusters of these varieties are much smaller and the grapes have a higher concentration of aromatic and flavour nuances than in conventional vines.
