Description
Hacienda López de Haro Reserva is a classic Rioja wine, made from a blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano. The grapes come from old vineyards, between 50 and 80 years old, located on the terraces of the Ebro River, in the area of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. These vineyards are planted on poor soils, which limits production and improves the quality of the fruit.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand in September. Fermentation is carried out in 30,000 kilogram vats at a controlled temperature of 28 ºC, with a ten-day maceration. The ageing process lasts 20 months in French and American oak barrels, followed by clarification with egg whites and bottle ageing for at least two years before release.
Taste
Hacienda López de Haro Reserva stands out for its balance and elegance. To the eye, it has a cherry red colour with a brick-red rim, indicative of its ageing. On the nose, it offers a complex blend of ripe fruit, vanilla, spices, cocoa and tobacco aromas. On the palate, it is characterised by its smoothness and roundness, with ripe, sweet tannins that provide an unctuous texture and a long, lingering finish. This wine is known for its good acidity and its fresh and balsamic notes, which makes it very versatile for pairing with dishes such as roast beef, sirloin steak with foie, Iberian cured meats, powerful stews and cured cheeses.
