Description
La Senda 1.9.8.4 is a natural and artisanal wine produced in the region of Bierzo, in Castilla y León, Spain, under the hand of the winemaker Diego Losada. This wine is made from 100% Mencía grapes, coming from old vines, aged between 70 and 95 years old, located in the plots El Ruedo, El Cementerio and La Cerámica, at an altitude of 600 metres. The soils where the vines grow are rich in minerals, with a mixture of quartz, iron and slate, characteristic of the Bierzo valley, which used to be an inland sea. The region's climate is extreme, with long, cold winters and short, wet summers, conditions that give the vines and the resulting wine a unique character.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and macerated for 4-5 days in oak vats. The wine is aged for 6 to 8 months in French oak barrels without any filtering or sulphur additives, which guarantees the most natural wine possible.
Taste
Senda 1.9.8.4 is a fresh and light wine, with a vibrant acidity. On the palate, notes of black fruits such as cherry and plum, accompanied by sweet spices such as cinnamon and hints of dried herbs. Despite its medium body, the wine maintains great freshness, thanks to the natural acidity of the Mencía grape, which balances the ripe, rounded tannins. The finish is persistent, with an aftertaste that evokes sensations of tobacco and leather, adding complexity to the palate and leaving a lasting impression.
