The Fontodi 2021 Flaccianello della Pieve opens to a medium-dark inky appearance and solid aromas of black fruit and pressed blackberry. The Flaccianello is a touch more accessible at this early stage compared to the Vigna del Sorbo, but both wines are undoubtedly built to withstand ample cellar aging. Flaccianello is the more powerful or the two, and the Vigna del Sorbo is more delicate in comparison. These dueling character traits are especially evident in this classic 2021 vintage. This wine also boasts a more generous mouthfeel supported by softly integrated tannins.

Description

Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, a grape variety that is emblematic of this Tuscan region. The grapes are selected from the best vineyards, with a density of 6,000 vines per hectare. The pruning and training technique used is Guyot.

Winemaking

Vinification is carried out by spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and maceration of the skins in stainless steel tanks for 3 weeks. Subsequently, it is aged in French oak barrels and foudres for 24 months. An average of 60,000 bottles of this exquisite wine are produced annually.

Taste

Flaccianello della Pieve is a true representation of Tuscan excellence. On the palate, one can perceive aromas of cherry, coffee and truffle, evoking the richness of the Tuscan soils. On the palate, it stands out for its great structure that balances opulence and fresh acidity. The primary flavours are intense, with notes of cherry, dark plum and earthy hints. The finish is long, elegant and unctuous, leaving a lasting impression on the palate.
