Description

When Emilio Moro tasted Godello from Bierzo for the first time in 2013, he knew that there was more than just a grape: there was a story to tell. Three years later, that love affair materialised in Emilio Moro El Zarzal, a white wine with a varietal soul that marked the beginning of the winery's project in Bierzo, a land of transition between the Atlantic influence and the Mediterranean heat. Surrounded by the Sierra de los Ancares, this protected microclimate allows the Godello to ripen with balance, maintaining a vibrant freshness and a pure expression of the terroir. The grapes are harvested on northwest-facing slopes, where altitude and exposure moderate the heat and add tension and complexity.

Winemaking

Emilio Moro El Zarzal is vinified with care, seeking to bring out the personality of the Godello without artifice. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, preserving the primary aromas of the grapes. The wine then rests on its fine lees in French oak foudres, where it gains texture, volume and longevity, without losing its natural freshness. This gentle ageing gives it discreet nuances of ageing without interfering with its varietal identity.

Taste

On the nose, Emilio Moro El Zarzal is elegant and clear: notes of ripe citrus (pink grapefruit, lime), juicy white fruit (pear, apple), and a background of soft herbs such as fennel. There are also floral hints and a subtle creamy echo of oak. Fresh and enveloping on the palate, with a well-integrated acidity that stretches the palate and keeps it lively. The finish is long, slightly saline and with a fine, very gastronomic bitterness. It is a wine that convinces with its balance, tension and restrained elegance. Perfect to accompany white fish, seafood or vegetable cuisine, but also to be enjoyed on its own, in peace and quiet.
