Description

In the heart of Meaño, in the Salnés Valley subzone, grows one of the best kept secrets of Rías Baixas: the Zárate Tras Da Viña plot, a tiny vineyard of barely 0.6 hectares that condenses the Zárate family's philosophy: respectful viticulture, own clonal selection and a tireless search to express the mineral soul of Galician granite. Replanted in 1965 with buds from the El Palomar estate, this vineyard represents a courageous and visionary decision: to preserve a plant heritage adapted to the local climate and soil, with grafts on 196-17-C rootstock.

The southern orientation and deep soil rich in organic matter give the Albariño vines a natural but controlled vigour that allows full ripening without sacrificing freshness. The Atlantic climate, with its morning mist and moderate temperature range, acts as a natural regulator. The result is a wine deeply linked to its terroir, capable of conveying the mineral whisper of the granite with exceptional clarity.

Winemaking

Zárate Tras Da Viña is harvested by hand with almost surgical precision, selecting the bunches of grapes directly from the vineyard. Fermentation is spontaneous in stainless steel tanks, without yeast or external intervention. After fermentation, the wine is racked to separate it from its gross lees and aged for 24 months on fine lees, without batônnage, respecting its natural evolution as much as possible. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out, preserving the malic acid nerve, which guarantees longevity and harmonious maturation in the bottle.

Taste

Zárate Tras Da Viña presents itself on the nose with a restrained but deeply evocative intensity. Notes of wet granite, lime, tangerine peel and a slight saline nuance anticipate its Atlantic character. The ageing on fine lees adds complexity and depth, without ever relinquishing tension.

The palate is straight, sharp, with a fascinating mineral purity. The acidity is perfectly integrated, providing nerve and lengthening the palate. It has a serum but firm texture, like polished stone, and a long finish with notes of lemon peel, green almond and a marine echo. It is a wine that rewards patience, reaching its maximum splendour after the fifth year in bottle.

Zárate Tras Da Viña does not seek to please everyone: it speaks softly, with an austere elegance, and requires the taster to listen attentively. A jewel of a mineral Albariño, with a marked identity, which sincerely expresses the soul of Galician granite.
