Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2020 JC Vizcarra (sold in some markets under the name Vizcarra 15 Meses because it matured in barrel for 15 months) is quite ripe, even in this cooler year, and hit the scale at 14.8% alcohol but keeping good freshness and coming through as balanced. The palate is medium to full-bodied with abundant, slightly dusty tannins that are going to need a little more time in bottle to be resolved. 70,000 bottles and 2,200 magnums produced. It was bottled in August 2022.
Between 16ºC and 18ºC
Aged for 14 months in French and American oak barrel.
Vizcarra is a red wine from Ribera del Duero made exclusively from Tempranillo grapes by Bodegas Vizcarra. The grapes come from vines over 20 years old, planted in goblet and trellised vines.
The grapes are harvested by hand and transported to the winery in 15 kg containers, where they are then sorted on the table and destemmed before fermentation. The grapes are fermented for 17 days at a temperature of 28ºC.
Malolactic fermentation takes place in American oak barrels. Finally, the wine is aged for 15 months in French and American oak barrels.
Vizcarra is a red wine that shows a fruity aromatic expression, powerful spicy notes and mineral ripeness. The palate is full, voluminous and persistent with silky tannins, well-integrated acidity and a long, balsamic finish.
A good red wine from Ribera del Duero.
Vizcarra is a characteristic wine of the area in which the tempranillo variety is faithfully expressed.
This red wine has been crafted by Bodegas Vizcarra with Tempranillo, by a winery that comes from a family with winemaking roots.
Tempranillo grows with excellent conditions for its maturation, which allowed this winery to stand out in an exceptional way with this single varietal wine.
In the gastronomic field, this is a wine especially recommended for dinners with friends or as a gift and as an accompaniment to stews, roasts, beef, game, mushrooms, sheep's cheeses and grilled red meats.
And you, have you tried this impressive wine yet? You will fall in love with it once you taste it!
