Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2017 Cabriolet is a Touriga Nacional that comes in at 14.7% alcohol. It was aged in used French oak for 12 months after fermentation in stainless steel. Only the second vintage, this is another terrific one. Lifted, fresh and flowery, this is gloriously aromatic. It is sexy because of its freshness and aromatics rather than sweet fruit. It still expresses the grape well. The mid-palate shows finesse, and there is plenty of pop on the finish. It is never a fleshy wine, so don't expect a wine that seems dense. It is hardly thin, though, and it does not lack true concentration. It is just very fresh with a fine acidic core, which changes the focus of this wine. Silky, graceful and perfectly structured, this should age rather well. It seems potentially brilliant. We'll see how it develops over time, but for the moment, I'm leaning up. There were 1,900 bottles produced.

Description

Susana Esteban Cabriolet is a red wine from the Alentejo region of Portugal, made from Touriga Nacional, a variety known for producing bold, full-bodied wines with intense aromas and flavours.

Winemaking

The carefully selected grapes come from a single vineyard and are harvested by hand. After harvesting, they are fermented in stainless steel tanks, a process that helps preserve their purity and intensity. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, which adds a subtle hint of vanilla and spice to the rich, complex fruit flavours.

Taste

A bouquet of ripe black fruits, floral notes and a hint of toasty oak unfolds. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a velvety texture, firm tannins and a long, smooth finish. In addition to its flavour profile, this wine stands out for its balance and hedonism, showing a surprising freshness. It is, without a doubt, a perfect combination of elegance and maturity, hard to resist even now.
