Description
Strohmeier Roter Frizzante is an authentic expression of the Burgenland region, known for its distinctive character and meticulous winemaking. Produced from the Zweigelt grape variety, this sparkling wine reflects the richness and diversity of the region's terroir.
The vineyard of origin, Lesteinis located on a steep slope with an Opok clay soil, close to Franz's home. This particular terroir, together with minimal pruning, contributes to the uniqueness and quality of the grapes.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed. A part of them ferment with the whole grape harvest, while another part is crushed and macerated with their skins until fermentation starts. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and wooden vats for 6 months, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation. For the second fermentation in the bottle, yeast and organic sugar are added. It is important to note that this wine is not fined, not filtered, not disgorged and no sulphur is added.
Taste
Strohmeier Roter Frizzante presents itself as a light, dry red wine with a gentle bubbling. Its aromatic palette is rich and varied, with plenty of red fruits and spicy nuances. It is impossible to resist its flavours of cherry, wild blueberry, baking spice, cinnamon and strawberry. Despite its high acidity and low sugar content, this wine has decent length on the palate. The big, robust bubbles, together with its flavour profile, make it a natural Burgenland petillant wine that is hard to forget.
