Description
The story of Pedro Méndez began in 2015, driven by a genuine passion for rescuing red varieties that had almost disappeared in Val do Salnés, specifically Caiño Tinto and Espadeiro. The name Xuntanza, which in Galician means "meeting", reflects the collective origin of the project: a sum of small vineyards and local winegrowers who, together with Pedro, decided to recover these native grapes and bring them back to prominence. This project was born not out of inheritance, but out of conviction: to rediscover the Atlantic roots through vines cultivated with respect and a contemporary vision, although outside the umbrella of the Rías Baixas DO. From Meaño and with minimal intervention, Pedro seeks to produce natural and genuine Galician wines that reflect their origin.
Winemaking
In the production of Pedro Méndez Xuntanza, the Caiño Tinto and Espadeiro grapes are selected by hand from granitic soils where viticulture faces the Atlantic with sensitivity and precision. Traditional treading is complemented with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts.
After fermentation, Pedro Méndez Xuntanza matures for 10 months in French oak barrels, before being refined for a further 4 months in stainless steel tanks. The result is a Galician red wine that maintains its freshness, authenticity and direct traceability from vineyard to glass.
Taste
In the glass, Pedro Méndez Xuntanza presents a bright, lively cherry colour, almost juicy to the eye. On the nose, the aromas are reminiscent of fresh strawberries, ripe cherries and a light floral perfume, delicate but cheerful, which adds a hint of freshness without losing authenticity.
On the palate, Pedro Méndez Xuntanza enters with an immediate freshness, like an awakening sip. The palate is silky and light, with notes of balsamic herbs, mild spices and fresh red fruit that intertwine naturally. The tannins are gentle, polished, and accompany the experience without imposing themselves. It is a young, vibrant and fruity wine, ideal for those who are looking for red wines with personality, easy to enjoy but with Atlantic sparkle.
