Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The red 2022 Gabatxo is serious, balanced and ripe without excess. It has 14% alcohol and balanced acidity with what seems to be the soft 2022 profile with a tender palate. It has good depth and persistence and integrated oak. It's a little darker than the others and comes through as a little riper. It was produced with 50% Garnacha, 45% Tempranillo and 5% Graciano fermented and destemmed separately and then blended and matured in oak vats for 15 months. It was a barrel sample and therefore not 100% stable. It should get bottled in April 2024.

Description
Gabaxo, a name that comes from "gabatxo", a nickname given by the people of La Rioja to the French, is a suggestive and distinguished wine. It is made in Eastern Rioja and Alavesa. It is one of the fruits of Spanish winemaking with the most character.
The vineyards where the grapes are grown are in Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja and it is vinified together with its clusters. Generally, they are extracted from stony, clayey soils with a good water supply in summer, which gives the fruit its quality. It is a terroir that justifies the attributes that this wine possesses!
Winemaking
Gabaxo is made from Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano grapes, aged for 11 months in 500-litre French oak. It then undergoes three months of maturation in used foudres.
Taste
This wine has a mature, serious, yet delicate flavour. It is smooth, but fresh at the same time, with a good structure and rounded tannins. Its aroma transports you to relaxing spaces, although it indicates that it is perfect for pairing, since it includes unique notes, with a long and constant finish!
French wine easy to match
In line with Olivier Rivière's own opinion, the success of his bottles lies in the fact that he makes wines that he likes and that he likes. It is really easy to drink, it can be paired with poultry, white and red meat, and it is ideal to be enjoyed with a variety of aperitifs. The interventionism in its elaboration is ideal, since its viticulture is natural.
