Description
Montespina Verdejo is a white wine produced by Avelino Vegas, a winery with more than 70 years of history located in the region of Segovia. This wine is made from 100% Verdejo grapes, grown in the D.O. Rueda, one of the most prestigious regions for this grape. The winery controls more than 600 hectares of vineyards, of which 90 hectares correspond to old vineyards, some of them centuries old, located mainly in the poor soils of the Segovian area, which gives the grapes a great aromatic complexity and structure.
Winemaking
The winemaking process for Montespina Verdejo is meticulous. After a rigorous ripening control, the grapes are harvested in the first fortnight of September. The grapes undergo a cold maceration that intensifies the aromas. Subsequently, the clean must is gently pressed and fermented at a controlled temperature for 20 days. Finally, the wine rests on its fine lees to gain volume and complexity.
Taste
In terms of the sensory profile, Montespina Verdejo stands out for its great expressiveness on the nose, where aromas of freshly cut hay, fennel and tropical notes such as pineapple, guava and mango mingle. On the palate, it is a fruity wine, with a vibrant acidity, which gives it freshness and a long, refreshing finish. This balance between fruit and acidity makes it a versatile wine to accompany fish, seafood and appetizers.
