Description
From the vineyards of Mas des Abymes, in the heart of Chapareillan (Savoy ), comes L'Octavin Joker, a wine born not from a formula, but from a hunch. Alice Bouvot - the soul of Domaine de l'Octavin - decided to cross physical and sensory boundaries to work with Jacquère grapes grown under her supervision in an alpine clay loam terroir. There, the cool Alpine breeze and mineral soils impart a unique tension and freshness to this traditionally light white variety, which here takes a radical turn. The result is a natural, sulphite-free wine, guided by intuition and absolute respect for the natural cycle: no sulphur, no filtration, no make-up.
Winemaking
The vinification of L'Octavin Joker is governed by one principle: minimum intervention, maximum expression. After a manual harvest, the grapes undergo a two-week skin maceration, where the must coexists with the skins, capturing texture, energy and structure. Then, a direct press is carried out, and the must ferments spontaneously in neutral tanks. No SO₂ is added, no sugar or acidity corrections are made. The wine runs its course with the indigenous yeasts as the only driving force, preserving all its raw personality. Bottled without fining or filtering, L'Octavin Joker is a faithful portrait of its origin and its creator.
Taste
L'Octavin Joker does not enter the scene shyly. It is a nervous, electric natural white wine, full of alpine tension. On the nose, it unfolds with aromas of white grapefruit, lemon zest, green apple and a note of wet stone reminiscent of mineral mountain freshness. There is a touch of tart tropical fruit - green pineapple, perhaps passion fruit - but no sweetness, all in a crisp key. On the palate, it shows a vibrant, sharp acidity, with a slight effervescence that brings lightness and energy. The texture is saline, almost chalky, and the finish is long, clean and deeply mineral.
L'Octavin Joker is for those who enjoy wine as an exploration: uncompromising, uncompromising, pure natural nerve. A radical yet delicate orange that speaks with the clear voice of alpine soil and Alice's courageous vision.
