Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The cloudy and characterful white 2021 Gratallops Partida Bellvisos Blanc has the advantage of the much cooler year. It has a reductive quality (similar to the Cartoixa from Venus), kind of flinty/smoky toasted sesame seeds. It's a blend of white grapes, mostly Garnacha Blanca, fermented from the direct pressing of the bunches, fermented and matured in large neutral barrels. It opens up in the glass to notes of wild herbs and flowers, again with an absence of fruit, and comes in at 13.5% alcohol, with a medium-bodied palate, svelte and handsome, with light and inner energy. It has great complexity, and with time, it unfurls waves of new aromas, blue cheese, dried yellow flowers, pollen and wet stones. It's a truly world-class Mediterranean white.

Description
At the top of Gratallops, the mineral heart of the Priorat, René Barbier junior and Sara Pérez embarked in 2002 on a venture as courageous as it was poetic: to recover a forgotten estate with centuries-old vines, three of its four hectares in total abandonment. With the help of a family loan and a vision radically linked to the land, Gratallops Partida Bellvisos Blanc was born: a wine that not only looks to the past, but reinvents it. On the upper and lower slopes, old Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo and the very rare Trepat Blanc, grown in soils of licorella, red clay and loose stone, are intertwined. The vineyard, worked by hand and mule, reveals a terrain as extreme as its character: wild, austere, deeply Mediterranean.
Winemaking
Gratallops Partida Bellvisos Blanc is made as if it were a great red wine: with maceration, structure and time. The grapes are pressed directly from whole bunches and fermented in large 600-litre neutral barrels and amphorae, where they are also aged for a long period of time. A month of contact with skins provides volume and a marked phenolic tension. The wine is neither clarified nor stabilised, respecting its purest expression.
Taste
Gratallops Partida Bellvisos Blanc is initially closed, with elegant reduction notes: toasted sesame, lighter stone, cold smoke. With aeration, an astonishing complexity emerges: dried flowers, pollen, wild fennel, beeswax and an almost pungent minerality. There is no obvious fruit: this wine speaks softly, with a quiet elegance. The palate is restrained but vibrant, with medium body, precise acidity and an enveloping texture. The saline finish and slight bitterness structure a long and persistent passage. More than a white wine, it is a bottled landscape: rough, deep, with a Priorat soul. A white wine that does not seek to please, but to move.
