Description

Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Feudo di Mezzo-Porcaria (MunJebel Rosso PA), in the Feudo di Mezzo - Porcariavineyard is a pure expression of the Nerello Mascalese variety, which represents 100% of its composition. This wine comes from the Etna region, specifically from the northern valley. The exact location of the Passopisciaro vineyard, belonging to the commune of Castiglione di Sicilia. This vineyard is located on a northern exposure and at an altitude of 640 metres above sea level. An outstanding feature of this wine is that it is produced from vines with an average age of over 60 years, which gives it a particular richness and complexity.
The location presents challenges to achieve perfection in maturation. However, in balanced vintages, when everything aligns, this wine proves to have both power and refined elegance, making it a complete wine.

Winemaking

On entry into the winery, the grapes are destemmed and lightly crushed. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts takes place in epoxy tanks in contact with the skins for a total of 50 days. The wine is then transferred to another neutral epoxy tank, with capacities varying between 1,500 and 2,500 litres, where malolactic fermentation and ageing begins for the following 18 months. At bottling, the wine is not clarified and filtration is light (5 microns). Sulphur values can vary between 15 and 50 mg/l, added or not, depending on the quality of the grapes and the stability of the wine. The wine remains in the bottle for a further 19 months before being released onto the market. The annual production is approximately 2,500 bottles.
The Munjebel Rosso PA has a ruby to purple colour, revealing notes of raspberry, cherry, pepper, cedar and earthy minerality. Despite its slight sweetness, it stands out for its medium-high acidity and tannins also of medium-high intensity, but balanced in a medium body that turns out to be delicious. It is a wine that is highly recommended, especially for those who have developed a taste for Sicilian grape varieties and their wines.
