The 2023 Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Spätlese is deep, pure, intense and still nutty on the mineral rather than fruity nose. Dense, sweet and savory on the palate, this is a tight and concentrated yet also pretty sweet Spätlese with saline and crystalline acidity and fine grip on the finish. 8.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted in October 2024.

Description
Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle Riesling Spätlese is characterised as a classic and elegant Spätlese (late harvest) style wine, rich in fruity aromas. Despite its impressive concentration, this wine stands out for its elegance and lightness, describing itself as a young dancer. Its taste is a combination of refined sweetness and a delicacy that makes it unforgettable on the palate. It also has a mineral character due to the rich soils of black-grey schist and volcanic elements from which the grapes come. These soils, together with the vineyard's location on a perfect south-facing slope, contribute to the complexity and depth of this wine.
The vineyard from which this wine originates has a legendary history, having been recognised and highly valued for over 100 years. The vines have an average age of 70 years, and yields remain around 40 hl/ha.
