Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The bouquet of the 2013 Brut Millésimé is compellingly fresh and minty, complicated by notes of white fruit—notably pear and apple—citrus and gentle spices, as well as a light touch of smoke. With aeration, elegant pastry notes come to the fore. On the palate, this is a structured, tension-filled but airborne Champagne with racy acidity, fleshy and charming texture and a long, penetrating finish. It should age well over the next eight to 10 years. Disgorged in 2022 with nine grams per liter, this is a blend of 57% Pinot Noir and 43% Chardonnay.

Features

Description

Charles Heidsieck Brut Millésimé is a jewel prized for its powerful and pure profile. This champagne is characterised by its generosity, rich texture and exceptional freshness that crowns the harmony of the wine. The wine's DNA is unique, marked by generosity and complemented by an exceptional freshness that crowns the harmony of the wine.

Winemaking

A vintage marked by a brief heat wave with significant effects on the wines. After an extremely cold winter and spring, the summer heatwave led to phenolic ripeness which, although late, was much higher than average. The almost autumnal conditions at the end of the ripening process delayed the harvest until mid-September, and even early October in certain sectors. Fortunately, the rains during harvest arrived just in time to amend the extraordinarily intense ripening. The resulting wines are full-bodied and structured. The composition is 57% Pinot Noir and 43% Chardonnay, sourced from 10 Grands and Premiers Crus, including Oger, Vertus, Chouilly, Cuis, Verzy, Aÿ, Ludes, Ambonnay, Tauxières and Avenay. Ageing is carried out for more than 6 years on the lees in the millenary chalk cellars where the winery's rhymes are located.

Taste

The wine has a beautiful golden colour with green glints, accentuated by a delicate and dynamic effervescence. On the nose, it introduces intense toasty and smoky notes along with ripe fruit. On swirling, the nose takes on a more robust dimension with hints of apricot, vineyard peach and peach. The aromatic concentration, due to a heat wave of several weeks, is reminiscent of summer sunshine. On the palate, the attack is taut and straight. The creamy texture, crisp fruitiness and spicy notes of cinnamon, liquorice and pepper are the hallmark of the House style. This wine immediately seduces the palate with its power, aromatic intensity and saline freshness, the House's emblematic signatures.
