Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The Charles Heidsieck NV Brut Réserve is elaborated with 150 different wines from most of 60 crus. This is a blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier with 50% of reserve wines. Disgorged in 2022 with a dosage of nine grams per liter, it has a delicate bouquet with aromas of orchard fruit, apricot, warm biscuits, praline, pastry and lemon hints. Medium to full-bodied, creamy and fleshy, the palate is charming with lively acids and a chalky finish. It’s approachable now but also evolving with grace.

Features

Description

Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve reflects the quintessence of the winery's style. This emblematic cuvée is the result of a meticulous selection and blending of wines.

Winemaking

The Brut Réserve is composed of 60 carefully selected crus. Three of these crus are fundamental to the style of this champagne: Oger (Grand Cru Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs) which gives it fleshy and generous notes, Ambonnay (Grand Cru Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims) which is synonymous with power, structure and fruity notes, and Verneuil (Meunier from the Vallée de la Marne) which guarantees its balance and smooth texture. The blend is composed of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier. Vinification is carried out cru by cru, varietal by varietal, in stainless steel tanks. In addition, 5 to 10% of the wine is vinified in old Burgundy oak barrels. The deep golden colour of the wine is the result of slow and prolonged maturation in chalk cellars.

Taste

It dazzles with a deep golden colour, the result of a fine and persistent effervescence, the fruit of slow maturation in chalk quarries. The nose evokes complex and elegant aromas of freshly baked brioche, toasted notes and ripe fruits such as mango, apricot and mirabelle plum, complemented by hints of nuts, pistachios and almonds. On the palate, its texture is reminiscent of the crunch of a creamy nougat, enriched with fleshy fruits such as plums and cherries. This experience is completed by a finish that reveals subtle notes of amber and vanilla, accompanied by a hint of praline.
