Fermented with indigenous yeasts in open vats. Malolactic fermentation and aging for 24 months in 500-litre French and Austrian oak barrels (50%) and stainless steel tanks (50%). Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Description
The red wine Antonio Madeira Vinhas Velhas is made from a blend of the red varieties Jaen, Tinta Amarela, Baga and 20 other varieties from old vineyards, between 50 and 90 years old, cultivated with dedication by Antonio.
Winemaking
Vinification was carried out in the traditional way. No oenological additives are used, with the exception of sulphur in minimal quantities. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out in open vats with a traditional gentle pressing and natural indigenous yeasts. After pressing, malolactic fermentation begins and the wine is aged for the following 18 months in old French oak barrels.
Taste
The character and elegance of the soil are the key points in this Vinhas Velhas red wine. It presents mineral aromas and flavours of granite and fresh red forest fruits. With vegetal nuances and perfumed by small flowers and pine forest. It is delicate, pure, compact, full of life, elegant and structured.
