Description
The Antonio Madeira A Centenária wine is a true gift that comes from the Dão region, specifically from the foothills of the Serra da Estrela. This wine is a reflection of the character and elegance of the land where it was born, taking us on a journey back in time to discover the aromas and flavours of yesteryear. It is described as a "Grand Cru de Dão Serra da Estrela", which speaks of its high quality and distinction.
Winemaking
In terms of its composition, it is made mainly from the Jaen variety, which represents 60% of the blend, followed by 40% of 20 other different indigenous varieties. These grapes come from a single plot which is an impressive 120 years old. The winemaking philosophy focuses on respecting the grape and nature, seeking the pure expression of the Serra da Estrela terroir. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out in open vats with traditional treading and begins naturally, with the indigenous yeasts. After pressing, the wine is transferred to used French oak barrels, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged for 18 months.
Taste
The nose of this wine is pure and unique, with a great identity and complexity that reflects its terroir and the passage of time. One can perceive notes of granite wrapped in fresh red fruit, white cherry, aromatic herbs, flowers and pine trees. On the palate, the Antonio Madeira A Centenária presents great depth, with a fresh and savoury sensation. Its tannins are silky, fine and smooth, culminating in an endless mineral finish.
This wine is ideal to pair with traditional Portuguese dishes, such as cod, but it is also perfect with lamb, red and white meats, and duck.
