Description
Andréa Calek Pénultième is a natural red wine produced without added sulphites in the Ardèche region of the Rhone Valley. This cuvée is composed of 50% Merlot and 50% Syrah, grown organically on clay and limestone soils.
Winemaking
The vinification process is ultra-natural, without filtration or fining, and the wine matures for 10 months in old Burgundy oak barrels. Andréa Calek Pénultième is bottled without the addition of sulphur. The blend offers a lovely balance, with an abundance of fruit, a touch of spice and a smoothness that makes it very easy to drink.
Taste
In terms of taste, Andréa Calek Pénultième offers a broad and structured profile. On the nose, it presents a volatile acidity typical of Calek wines, with a hint of vinegar and nail polish, which fades to give way to aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants and a light touch of leather. On the palate, there are flavours of ripe blackberries, blackcurrants and strawberries, with a full body, medium acidity and medium tannins. It is a well-balanced wine with good concentration and length. It is recommended to pair with rich dishes such as venison stew, game in sauce or pasta with thick red sauce.
