I love the complex Burgundian nose of the white 2022 Mártires with its Riojan spiciness and sapidity. It's not a shy white at 14.5% alcohol but is vibrant, with a pH of 3.28 and very integrated oak. It fermented in brand-new French oak barrels with indigenous yeasts and matured in those barriques for nine months, the first four with less and bâtonnage twice per week. It's showy, more than Viura usually is, with pungent aromatics, smoke, spice, flowers, pollen and herbs. 1,200 bottles were filled in June 2023.
