Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2023 Estate Riesling trocken opens with a remarkable aromatic yet fine and elegant bouquet with tangerine, chalk and sur lie aromas and a discreet salinity in the background. Fresh and very elegant on the palate, this is a medium-bodied, stimulating savory yet also round and finessed Riesling with great purity and excellent quality. This is one of the Best Buys of the vintage when it comes to dry, terroir-driven Rieslings. 12% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Tasted in October 2024.

Description
Wittmann Riesling Trocken is an authentic representation of the Rheinhessen region, known for its elegance and unique sense of place. This wine serves as a calling card, introducing those who taste it to the essence and distinctive character of the wines of the Rheinhessen region. The grapes used to make the wine come exclusively from their own vineyards, cultivated biodynamically and cared for by hand. This meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard results in wines that are exceptionally harmonious with food, both in their youth and as they age.
Winemaking
The high quality of this wine is no accident. It starts in the vineyards with yield reduction, manual grape selection and a series of other measures such as biodynamics. In the winery, gentle pressing is followed by traditional vinification methods. The wines are fermented mainly in traditional large barrels.
Taste
Grown on the chalky soils of Westhofen, this wine shows its maximum expression. It is described as an uncompromising terroir wine with saline, herbal and elegant characteristics. Its yellow colour and energetic character define it as a pure and authentic Riesling. The taste is mouth-filling, round and textured, offering a juicy but pure dry Riesling, with delicate lemon bitterness on the finish revealing some ripe white peach aromas in the aftertaste.
