Description
Tomás Postigo 5º Año is a red wine made mainly from Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and complemented with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec, which adds complexity and structure. The winery, founded in 2008 by Tomás Postigo, a veteran in Ribera del Duero, stands out for its commitment to making high quality wines, selecting grapes from plots located between 750 and 1,000 metres above sea level in 15 municipalities in the region. The soils are predominantly limestone and sandy loam, which gives the wine a characteristic minerality.
Winemaking
Tomás Postigo 5º Año is made by hand and the grapes are transported to the winery intact and destemmed. An important detail is that all the movement of the wine in the winery is done by gravity, without pumps, preserving the integrity of the grapes as much as possible. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months, which provides complex aromatic notes.
Taste
In the mouth, Tomás Postigo 5º Año is a well-structured wine, with a juicy acidity and soft but marked tannins. Notes of ripe black fruit such as plum and blackberry are perceived, accompanied by spicy hints of vanilla, cedar and liquorice. It is a complex and long wine, with a slightly bitter finish that prolongs its persistence. It also stands out for its subtle balsamic and mineral notes, which reinforce its Atlantic profile.
