Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The current release from their flagship single vineyard is the 2010 Turó d'en Mota, from the vineyard that names the wine, planted in 1940, 0.97 hectares on limestone-rich soils. They picked 3,742 kilograms of grapes on September 7th, which represents a yield of 21 hectoliters per hectare. It fermented in 300-liter oak barrels with weekly bâtonnage for six weeks and was put to referment in bottle with neutral yeasts where the wine matured with the lees under a cork stopper for at least 12 years. 2010 was an unusual year with abundant rain in autumn and spring and a warm summer that brought ripe grapes with full development of aromas and flavors. The wine is super balanced, subtle and elegant, with insinuating aromas of great complexity mixing flowers and herbs; it's balsamic, almost minty, with freshness, smoky and toasted notes, bakery aromas and high-pitched notes of cloves. It has a velvety, seamless palate with very small, integrated bubbles and a very long, clean and tasty finish. In October 2023, I tasted all 25 vintages produced, and this was one of my favorite years. 2,581 numbered bottles produced. It has 12% alcohol, with a pH of 3.23 and 5.4 grams of acidity. It was disgorged in November 2023. This was my favorite from all the vintages between 2023 and 2010, the 'unreleased ones,' at a tasting of all 25 vintages from Turó d'en Mota back in October 2023. And in April 2024, it didn't disappoint me either.

Features

Description

Turó d'en Mota is a wine that expresses the ancestry of the land where it was cultivated, defining its taste as chalky and combining it with the goodness that the proximity to the Mediterranean brings.
It is made from the processing of the xarel-lo grape and a minimum percentage of another type of this fruit, grown on a hill called Turó d'en Mota, which explains the origin of its name. With regard to the viticulture techniques, the application of chemicals is kept to a minimum, focusing more on the natural.
Recaredo's Turó d'en Mota wine is a sparkling wine that not only denotes the simplicity and elegance of an occasion, but also the feel of a wine with an artisanal flavour.

Elaboration

The elaboration of this wine begins with the cultivation of the fruit using traditional techniques, and using calcareous soils, which are characterised by the scarce presence of organic matter.
Once harvested, the grapes are subjected to a first fermentation process, where the intervention of labour and chemicals is limited, since the philosophy of Recaredo wines preserves the naturalness in its essence.
Afterwards, the wine is aged for 2 weeks in oak barrels and then aged for 10 years in the bottle, using a natural cork as a stopper. Disgorgement is carried out manually and at room temperature.

Taste

With the wine Turó d'en Mota de Recaredo you will taste the perfect balance between elegance and intensity. Its fine and delicate bubbles, together with the citric tones and the hint of nuts, are perfectly integrated to denote the perfection of a sparkling wine.

A quality sparkling wine

The wine Turó d'en Mota of Recaredo is classified, according to the critics, as one of the Catalan sparkling wines with more quality, because in each sip you will notice the elegance, comparable to a good Champagne. It is ideal for tasting with foie gras or dishes that include seafood.
