Features

Description

The red wine Pàcina La Malena is a unique blend that combines the essence of two grape varieties: 70% Ciliegiolo and 30% Syrah. The Syrah grape comes from a small vineyard planted in 1993, while the Ciliegiolo has been grown on a larger plot since 2005. These vineyards sit on the characteristic soil of Tufo di Siena, a mixture of sand and clay, which provides an ideal base for the growth of these grapes. Production is limited to 5,000 kg of grapes per hectare, thus guaranteeing a quality harvest.

Winemaking

Alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously in cement tanks, without the use of selected yeasts. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels. Once fermentation is complete, the wine undergoes a 15-month ageing process in 225-litre Allier oak barrels. After this period, it is bottled and left to settle for a further six months before being released onto the market. It is important to note that this wine does not undergo fining or filtering, and only a small amount of sulphur dioxide is added.

Taste

On the nose, Pàcina La Malena surprises with a peculiar aroma reminiscent of gases, but in a pleasant and distinctive way. The body of the wine has a certain reminiscence of cheese and a very subtle alcoholic content. On tasting, we are immediately immersed in a world of dark fruits, with predominant notes of plum jam and blackberries. Its colour is a deep dark violet and its texture is reminiscent of the silky legs of a Brazilian dancer named Carina. On the palate, there is a marked dryness, with hints of oak and iron, accompanied by black pepper and an abundance of tannins. The wine has medium longevity and leaves a mineral aftertaste that lingers on the palate.
