Description

Pedro Méndez is an artisan from Salnés who left the easy way to recover old and almost forgotten vineyards in Simes, Padriñán and Vilalonga, in Meaño, precisely in the heart of Val do Salnés(Rías Baixas). Pedro Méndez Branco do Val is born from the organic cultivation of Albariño in 30 to 80 year old vines, on soils of decomposed granite and clay sprinkled by the Atlantic breeze and the humidity of the Ría de Arousa. Each bottle is the materialisation of a courageous decision: to make an Albariño without artificial influences, faithful to the terroir and the deepest roots.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand, respectfully and meticulously. The grapes destined for Pedro Méndez Branco do Val are pressed without destemming to preserve their essence, and ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, without corrections or unnecessary interventions. Partial malolactic fermentation is carried out, which adds roundness without losing freshness. The wine rests for 10 months on its fine lees in French oak barrels (and occasionally foudres), an ageing process that adds texture, complexity and character without masking its origin. Finally, gentle filtering and a minimal dose of sulphur dioxide preserve its purity and cellaring capacity.

Taste

The first glance offers a straw yellow colour with golden reflections, like a summer afternoon in the Galician estuaries. On the nose, discreet but profound aromas emerge: peach and stone apricot, delicate white flowers, a touch of fresh grass and a mineral base that evokes granite dampened by mist.

On the palate, Pedro Méndez Viño Branco do Val is vibrant and balanced. The acidity stands out without dominating, harmonising with an enveloping texture that adds volume without heaviness. The saline sensation and minerality make it ample, complex and full of floral and fruity nuances. It is a powerful and visceral Albariño, made to provoke emotion, defy prejudices and endure over time.
