Description
The Gut Oggau Timotheus wine is a unique and characteristic representation of the Gut Oggau winery. This wine, described as the son of Mechthild and Bertholdi and brother of Joshuari and Emmeram, stands out for its strong, balanced and powerful character. Timotheus is a wine that, despite having its roots firmly planted in the soil, is always looking for new challenges and adventures. It is considered a wine with confidence, substance and refinement, capable of winning the affection and admiration of those who taste it.
Made from 40 year old vines, this wine comes from yields of 1-2 tons per hectare. The soil in which these grapes grow is a combination of limestone, slate, gravel and sand. The varieties used in its production are Grüner Veltliner and Weissburgunder.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand and partially destemmed. One third of the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts on their skins for about 3 weeks, while the rest is pressed directly. The wine is then blended. Fermentation takes place in used 500-litre barrels, where the wine matures for about 12 months without batonnage. Finally, it is bottled unfiltered, unrefined and without the addition of sulphur.
Taste
The producer has created a family for the wine, dividing them into children, parents and grandparents, each representing a characteristic of the wine. Gut Oggau Timotheus is categorised as a parent, a blend of Grüner Veltliner and Weissburgunder from 40-year-old vines. This plot, exposed to the sun, results in a wine with a ripe fruit character. Notes of apple, honey and grapefruit can be appreciated, accompanied by floral hints of white flowers and jasmine. This combination makes for a subtle acidity, which may come as a surprise when you discover that this wine originates from Austria, offering a truly unique experience.
